Mr and Mrs Gunasekara’s Residence at Narahenpita

The modern three-story residence was erected on a 10-perch plot of land in Colombo, which is quickly becoming a high-end residential area on the outskirts of the city. The location necessitated additional care due to its proximity to two roadways, one of which is bordered by a canal that divides it from the densely populated typical urban residences.

At the Inception, one of the primary design considerations was privacy and security. Because of the building’s prominent location, the facades had to be visually appealing. The timber screening and iron grill work had to be added as a privacy measure as well as a design component, giving the elevation a distinct three-dimensional look. The columns and beam structure on the open terrace on the second story give layers to the facade. And the protruding single pitch roof adds architectural glitz.
